There's a set point theory that basically indicates despite dieting and any weight loss efforts, the body will alway want to return to its natural set point weight. This is an important detail which I always try to explain to my personal training clients who follow my fat loss body transformation program.
It's often quite difficult for people to lose weight and keep it off. You will notice at the beginning of a legitimate body-fat loss program that weight comes off pretty consistently, but then a couple of months after losing weight it becomes difficult to keep that body-fat off. Eventually, the weight that was lost completely returns despite the fact that you may still be restricting your intake of calories. This is exactly what the set point theory is about.
When you go below your body's natural set point weight, your metabolism reacts by slowing down to try and conserve energy. It starts thinking it's in a state of starvation and tries to use the limited calories that you consume much more efficiently. You become more tired so that you sleep more, your body temperature drops which burns less calories, and hunger along with the urge to binge on food (calories) dramatically increases. All this is done to prevent you from losing weight.
The more you try to go below your body's set point weight, the harder your body fights to retain the weight. You can, however, change your set point weight but only by correctly engaging in a a healthy nutritious eating pattern along with incorporating resistance and cardio fitness exercises specifically designed for your goal.
Precise nutrition & supplementation, resistance exercise, and specific algorithem cardiorespiratory training can adjust your natural set point. That is to say; when all three are customized combined and correctly implemented, consistently, as my clients have done in the below pictures. You and anyone else can do the same to dramatically change your health and physique.
